According to a @harukaze5719 tweet, AMD is planning to release a non-X Ryzen 5 5600, which is supposed to happen in early 2021.

As per the leaked information, the price of the AMD Ryzen 5 5600 would be $220, which is $80 cheaper compared to the Ryzen 5 5600X, but it is $20 more than its predecessor, Ryzen 5 3600. As for the specifications of the non-X Ryzen 5 5600, the chip would feature 6 cores and 12 threads, as well as overclocking support. We assume that the release date of the 5600 (non-X) will be announced as soon as Ryzen 5000 support for the B450 and X470 motherboards will be available, which will be in January 2021.

The leak also states that the Ryzen 5 5600X is expected to have similar or better performance than the Intel Core i7-10700 (non-K) regarding gaming and single-thread performance. Given the information above, we can assume that the Ryzen 5 5600 will likely be able to compete with the Intel Core i5 series of desktop processors or even could come close to what the i7-10700 offers, but for a lower price, which looks like such a good bargain.
