The budget APU Athlon 3000G announcement and release date

AMD has officially released the new Athlon 3000G, which is the AMD’s most affordable Zen-based processor with the price tag at just $49. This processor is fully unlocked for overclocking which makes it a good option for gamers who are more budget-orientated to buy one of the cheapest CPUs available on the market. 

Ryzen 3000G CPU was released on the 19th of November 2019.

As per the official information, provided by AMD, the Athlon 3000G has 2 cores with SMT support for 4 threads, dual channel DDR4 memory, packs 4MB of L3 cache and it fits inside the AM4 socket. It operates at a base frequency of 3.5 GHz and with a TDP of 35 W. The CPU is based on AMD’s 12nm Zen+ microarchitecture with an integrated Vega 3 graphics engine with 192 cores and working frequency of 1100 MHz, which contributes to the total performance. Once overclocked to 4.0 GHz, the performance of the CPU becomes much more competitive.

Testing the AMD Athlon 3000G is showing that the CPU is a good option with overclocking allowing it to perform beyond its price point.

In AMD’s official page you can find slides series in which AMD is showing the position of all Ryzen processors from 3rd generation and also the comparison between its processors and Intel Core chips from 9th and 10th generation.

As you can see in the picture above, Rуzеn 5 3400G and Rуzеn 3 3200G are shown with integrated graphic and 4 cores with Zеn+ architecture and the budget friendly Аthlоn 3000G is also shown there.

For example, AMD is opposing the 32-core Ryzen Threadripper 3970X to the 18-core Core i9-10980XE, as overall Intel doesn’t have a more powerful processor than this one in HEDT section.

Also according to the information provided by AMD, the flagship 16-core Ryzen 9 3950X is as competitive as Intel’s processors – Core i9-9920X and Core i9-10920X. As we said, AMD’s processor has 16 cores with higher frequency and its price is $750 and Intel’s chips have 12 cores each for each price of $700. Another thing that we should point is that AMD’s chip has fewer maintained PCI-E lanes and memory channels.

In the following comparison between 8-core Rуzеn 7 3800Х and Соrе і7-9700К, the Rуzеn is preferable due to lots of cache memory and more maintained PCI-E lanes. Both of the processors have prices of around $400 each. On the other hand, AMD offers on the market Rуzеn 7 3700Х processor which doesn’t have significant differences from Rуzеn 7 3800Х, except for that it costs $70 less.

Finally, AMD presents the best seller Rуzеn 5 3600 which successfully compete with Іntеl Соrе і5 chips, as regards a wide variety of purposes.

Nvidia GTX 1650 Super review and release date

Nvidia introduced on the market the Super versions of its budget cards from the GTX 16xx series – 1650 and 1660.

GTX 1650 Super release date was on the 22nd of November 2019 and as per the provided information for the card, the latter received a much more serious upgrade.

I think we all agree that the original model didn’t impress us that much. 

It even performed worse than the AMD’s Radeon RX570, as the only advantage over the AMD’s card was the lack of necessity for an additional power, but this cannot necessary be considered as a plus.

What Nvidia added for the GTX 1650 Super is not only the GDDR6 memory, but they also used different GPU in it.

Comparing the specifications of the original and the Super models, the Super model overall will have better performance in all aspects.

The downside of the Super model for some people will be the need for a separate power supply.

Looking at the GTX 1650 Super specifications, it appears that the card is a bit pricey comparing to the original model, but if you are looking for a budget equivalent of the RX 570 on the market, that is the one.

RX 5500 announcement and release date

AMD introduced the RX 5500 series cards with three models, namely: RX 5500 XT, RX 5500 and RX 5500M, so now we can say that Navi cards have their budget equivalents on the market.

As per the information provided by AMD, the new AMD RX 5500 series graphics cards will be available in December and the release date will be on December 12, 2019.

As you might guess, these cards will compete in both performance and price with Nvidia’s GTX 1650 and possibly with the upcoming Super models from 1650-series.

As we are comparing the specifications of the two desktop models, the only difference that you notice between them is the video memory capacity – 4GB vs 8GB.

What we consider as an advantage is that the faster GDDR6 memory and higher frequencies compared with other versions, as well as the new architecture are a sign of noticeably higher performance in the same price range.

Also speaking of memory capacity let’s not forget that we are talking about the 14GB version of GDDR6.

Another cool thing that we should mention is that the new cards’ models in combination with the 128-bit interface, will have a throughput of 224GB / s.

Looking at the cards’ specifications, it seems that all three models will be extremely competitive in both performance and price.
